PER B SUNDBERG : HOT GLASS & THE PRINTED IMAGE Per B Sundberg's presentation will focus on the life and work of the Swedish designer with an emphasis on new techniques that combine printed imagery with organic blown glass forms; 'Fabula' and 'Litograal'. Biography : Per B Sundberg, one of the innovators of Swedish art glass, was born in 1964 and educated at the Swedish School of Arts in Stockholm and at Philchuck in the USA. Since 1994 he has been associated with Orrefors Kosta Boda Company. At Orrefors he had the opportunity of realizing many ideas through working with the factory's skilled craftsmen. This resulted in the development of two new techniques; 'Fabula' and 'Litograal'. These pieces are heavy, bulbous, and baroque in shape. Through layers of thick crystal one can catch a glimpse of surreal printed images. Sundberg has also developed some of these themes in his ceramic work. Sundberg is now a freelance designer and lecturer at the National College of Arts, Crafts, and Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm. His work is represented in many international collections including: Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Ebeltoft Glass Museum, Denmark; Musée des Art Décoratifs de Montréal, Canada; Museo des Arte Decorativo, Argentina; National Museum, Stockholm. |
